in preparation for st. lucia's day, which is celebrated throughout europe and in sweden on december 13, we made lucia's bread. traditionally the eldest daughter will rise early in the morning and prepare lucia buns and coffee to serve to her parents in bed. symbolic of how lucia served other christians hiding out in italy in the early 400s.
this was a great recipe to have will and issy help make since the dough was very pliable and elastic. it made rolling and braiding easy. after making 3 long snakes we braided the dough together in one long single braid and william appropriately nicknamed our bread, "rapunzel bread."
next we formed a circle and let it rise for 30 min. or so and then we cooked it in the oven.
after cooking the bread we drizzled a orange flavored glaze over the top!!
YUMM-O!!
