trail girl-amon basin

okay, so i made a goal for myself starting this spring...dare i say?  i do not like setting goals because i tend not stick to things, but i wanted to set a goal for myself that would embrace two of my loves: nature and hiking!  my hope is that i will stick with it that way!!
my goal is to go on all the trails in the tri-city and surrounding areas.  for most of the trails i will go on my own or with hunter.  but this first trail was an easy one, so i took william with me too.
this afternoon was gorgeous so we headed over to richland to check out amon basin trail.

my hope in doing this is to learn to embrace the beauty of the shrub steppe.  for the most part it involves a lot of ugly looking shrubs and sage brush with very few trees.  i LOVE trees, so living in an area with few trees is difficult for me.  but i am determined to find the beauty of this area as i spend time on the trails.

william had on his running legs today.  the main pathway is great for running(a few bumpy spots, that wouldn't feel great on my knees) and dogs are welcome.  there were some off trail paths, but there were a lot of signs encouraging you NOT to go off the path.  we ventured off a little bit, which in my opinion is the fun part of hiking.
the trail is about 1.7 mi. round trip with lots of shrubbery and a few ponds. we saw some ducks and birds but the signs say that you may see deer, hedgehogs, quail and snakes as well.
there were a few benches along the paths too.
i love my superhero!! today he was batman!
lichen growing on some of the bushes.
this trail is great for families.  the only downfall for me is that it is not very remote; you could still see neighborhoods and hear cars driving by.  however, there were signs of desert foliage on the verge of blooming, so i will definitely go back to see some spring flowers!!
