BABY POETRY

Emma loves poetry. She had a fabulous 2nd grade teacher this last year and learned so much about literature, science, art and cultures. (also math and reading, the essentials.) It is difficult to catch all those other areas when there is so much emphasis put on math and reading, so I was pleased that she was able to learn other subjects as well. Anyhow, at the end of their poetry unit, they had a "Poetry Tea." All the families were invited to come and listen to their kids read some of their original poetry work. Emma decided to read one she wrote about the baby we are having. Following is the poem. I hope you enjoy.

BABY
by Emma Stratton

Slimy, gooey
eat, eat, eat
Slimy, gooey
sleep, sleep, sleep

Slimy, gooey
cry, cry, cry
Eating slops
like yummy
pie

Poo Poo Poo
Sticky, smelly
Gushy, mushy
but
cute
cuddly
rolly
poly
nice

They giggle
and sniffle
They're so, so
cute

Well, it sounds like she knows a lot about babies!!! How very sweet. I think it's fun to watch older siblings bond with their unborn baby, it is very interesting how they perceive this new little person waiting to enter their world.

She actually changed the ending. Before it was about how yucky babies can be and not so much about being cute. It was sweet. Last night, we were reading our scriptures and talking and the baby was really wiggling. I had the kids put their hands on my stomach and they could really feel it moving and they thought it was really cool. It is really fun to see them start to comprehend there really is a living being in my stomach. It actually is still hard for me to comprehend it all myself.
