our final day back east included visiting mount vernon. my mom bought us tickets to go on the
national treasure tour, which was pretty cool! we were able to see places where they filmed the movie
and we learned little tidbits "behind the scenes."
george washington had a huge green house. there were slaves that had the job of keeping the fire going under the flooring to warm the green house in the winter to keep the plants from dying. |
this was a funny spot. apparently george washington LOVED ice cream. he spent $5000 in one year on ice cream. this was the cellar they would store the ice in after it was collected off the potomac river. when they came to do the filming of national treasure, they opened it up to use it in the movie. however, it had not been opened in years and it was full of snakes. as our guide was telling us this story, a snake came crawling out of the door above her head!! not only pretty funny, but scary as well!! |
this wall was built on the property and is called the aha!! wall. george washington thought it was funny when kids would roll down the hill and then roll off the wall. it was also a wall drunk people would fall off too! he was kind of a jokester! |
| george washington had several farms and lots of slaves to run his farms. |
we had so much fun on our trip! we loved having our cousins belle and maurcio join us for the week!! |
