i love seattle

seattle is one of my most favorite places in the whole world. seeing as i haven't been to too many places, i guess that isn't saying much, but that doesn't matter, i still love it! here are a few things i love about seattle:

1. the beaches. growing up, the beaches i experienced typically had very hot sand and even hotter sunshine which involved lots of sunscreen. i remember the first time i went to a seattle beach, ned and i were newlyweds and he wanted to show me some of his hometown. so, he took me to the coast! it was cold, windy and i wore a sweatshirt. we didn't swim in the ocean but rather dared each other to put our feet in the water, and this was in AUGUST! hello!??! anyhow, i was amazed at how different the beaches in the nw were. over the years i have grown to love the fact that i can go to the beach and be fully clothed wearing no sunscreen with no need to jump in the waves and still have a fabulous time.

2. the berries. oh my gosh!! the berries. i love the fact that you could never want for a snack in this city. everywhere you go, there are berries. right now the blackberries are in season. there were bushes and bushes all over the city and towns. i took will on several walks and we would stop and pick berries to munch on as we walked. neds mom even made a blackberry cheesecake. i was in berry heaven!!

3. the trees. i love the greenery of western washington. it is beautiful and lush and wet and just green!! i am dreading the desert of utah. even though there are trees, it does not come close to the lucious greenery of the seattle area. i was in awe at the sheer thickness of trees on the cascades. man, it is beautiful!! the wet trees and bushes with their huge leaves remind me a lot of the jungles of panama. i love it!! do you get it people??? how much i love it!! good.

4. the mountains. what more can i say? the cascades are awesome! i love how they are often partially covered by the clouds and the peaks peek out at you, not to mention all the evergreen trees.

5. the misty rain. i love rain. now, i don't know that i could say that living in seattle year-round would be something i would love. i need a little sunshine. however, i don't mind the rain and clouds when i go to visit. i expect it. i actually am bummed if we don't get the "typical" seattle weather when we visit. this last weekend we got it! it was just the perfect blend of misty rain, clouds and sunshine.
