i heard this interesting interview on NPR last week. i was unable to finish the entire interview, but from what i did hear, i was sad to have to turn the car off. i went to NPR's website and found the article in question. it is linked here. are you a hard core breastfeeder or is bottle more your pleasure? i would love to know your thoughts!

Breast is best for me & mine. But, I know a lot of women who would have loved/preferred to breastfeed but for various reasons, aside from not wanting to, couldn't.
As far as length of time breastfeeding, that is an interesting question to me. Addison was so ready for "regular" food that by one year she had weaned herself completely. I would have liked to continued but she wanted nothing more to do with my breasts although I think there was plenty of milk when she decided to be done with it.
I've learned that these options are so personal & so touchy that to say one is right while the other is wrong just doesn't work & really is not fair. The best thing is what works for you and your family.
That's my 2 cents.

My first two were strictly breast, but the twins were supplemented from the start, and were on formula full-time by two months. My milk never really came in very well. I think my body was too worn out from the pregnancy. I was really bummed at first, but I have to be honest and say that it was a life-saver to be able to have Todd help me feed them at night. I don't think I could have survived exclusive breast-feeding with two of them! It was hard enough with the bottles!

I'm a breast-feeder when I can, although I often have to settle for a bottle or a can, sometimes a glass. :-)

ha, steve!! i pegged you for a breast man all the way!!

i love to nurse, but i also enjoy the freedom bottle-feeding gives me. i have exclusively breast fed will and emma. i did both for hunter and only bottle-fed issy. i think the balance of both is great!! i feel like i am giving them what is best(breast, in my opinion) but i can still fill my own cup by getting away AND like kristi, i can use my husband's help. I found that to be a++++ all the way around when we bottle-fed issy. night time feedings were much more pleasant!!

I have breastfed my all 3 of girls except for 1 formula bottle they get a day. It gives me a little freedom to sneak out with my husband for dinner, they can take two those days, or if you have your appendix out w/ a 2 month old at home, it eases a difficult time.
Length of time: oldest, 9 months completely weaned herself, number
2, 6 months weaning herself, and number 3, 14 months. (Last two months it was only once or twice at night, I got lazy!)
