TO SHAVE or NOT TO SHAVE???
To shave or not to shave, that is the question. So, we live in the heart of granola land. OKay, okay, not totally, but sometimes it feels like it. Not that I am totally against the "granola" lifestyle, but I am not a huge advocate either. I appreciate and actually admire many qualities of a "granola" type person, but I never grew up that way and so it isn't something I have engrained in me or do naturally, if that makes sense. Okay, so I have a friend and we often have conversations around "granola" type topics. The other day we got on the topic of shaving the "PITS." I know, kinda gross. But, I am often curious about the why's and why not's of the "granola" way. I often notice people who don't shave their pits here and I want to ask them "why?" So, not knowing my friend didn't shave, I was talking about it and wondering and I could tell by her body language that she didn't shave her pits. So, I am like, "You don't shave do you?" She said, "No." So, we proceed to talk about why and her reasons were more about skin irritation and convenience more than anything. We also contemplated society's views as well as cultural(europe vs america). So, in the end she challenged me to try it! Well, I made a few excuses like, Ned might not like it, or it might be itchy, or it just cosmetically isn't pleasing to the eye. But, I finally relented and said, HMM I guess I can't say I wouldn't like it, since I have never tried it. Anyways, I went home pondering and I told Ned about it and he said(to my utter dismay), "Hey, you should try and see what you think!" I was in shock. I totally thought he would be grossed out, but he wasn't. I actually think he never would have noticed, unless it was soo long I could braid it or something. So, I woke up this morning and hopped in the shower and shaved my pits. I guess I am not ready to take the step. But, I am curious what others think. I would love to find out, how many people acually do not shave their pits. So, if you are a closet "hairy pit" person, it is time to come out of hiding and if you aren't, more power to ya. I for one am not sure the "hairy pit"thing is for me.....at least not today!!!

Hi Ashley, A very interesting topic of conversation. Personally I don't like the look of hair on a womens armpit. Riding the DC Metro for several years has comfirmed my belief that all women should shave. Believe me it isn't a pretty sight to see arms stretched up to hold on to the rail and a bunch of hair in the arm pit. I for one will continue to shave. MOM
I for one am not an advocate of hairy arm pits. I think it looks too Planet of the Apes. In truth, if/when I could afford it I'd have them lasered...I'd even go so far the opposite on the granola gradient as to have pretty much every bit of hairiness other than my head of hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes zapped into nonexistence! I like smooth skin and I don't mind the 5 seconds it takes in the shower to get it. I also dislike the deodorant clumps in armpit hair, which is why I think it is nice that my husband trims his pits with a handy pair of clippers. Ok, maybe this comment has way too much info in it!!! I'll stop there.
While I do consider myself a granola type, I also shave my pits, although I'm a bit casual about shaving my legs (which means I shave them like once a week), but mainly because I'm lazy. My husband also shaves his pits. People might think that's weird until they realize that it cuts WAY down on the B.O. Even though I'm a firm believer in "mammals have hair; I'm a mammal, therefore I have hair," I'm not a huge fan of body hair. So would I laser? Not sure, but since it's a financial impossibility right now, I can think about it awhile longer...
I do not shave under my arms. My wife does so that her hair does not get stuck in my teeth.
Hi Ash! Wonderfultopic. I'm also surrounded by granola types but that subject has not come up yet. I guess I'll have to ask. I do shave my underarms but not every single day. I get bad rashes if I do. The legs it's another story. I've gone months during the winter. My husband says that after a while he likes it because it means I don't poke him everytime I rub mu legs against his. I personally would use the laser procedure if I could afford it & save myself the hassle & the rashes. Now, my husband on the other hand, there's a guy that has the smoothest everything. My husband has Alleopecia, which means that he has NO HAIR whatsoever in ANY, I mean ANY, part of his body. He does miss having eyebrows, eyelashes, nose hair & ear follicules. I never knew that eyebrows had more than cosmetic purposes. He complaints constantly about sweat getting in his eyes, plus he has no filtering system in his nose so everything goes right in. This is especially difficult for the guy who says he inhales more than anyone since he already has a big nose & for someone who thinks that it's terrible to smell anyones toots, stating that what you're actually smelling are particles of someone's fecal matter in your nose. Isn't it lovely?! He does that to bug me But anyway, I'm drifting now. Yes, I totally advocate for NO hair under the pits!
Thanks for the input guys. Shirley that is totally interesting about your hubby. I never noticed, when we met...like only once.
